VLSI & EMBEDDED CONFERENCE 2013..!!

Recently attended a two day conference on vlsi & embedded system

The conference is based on "GREEN TECHNOLOGY" a new era for Electronics, which explores the ability of VLSI and embedded circuits and systems to positively impact the environment.

DAY 1 (7th January 2013)
Followed by the registration at 8.00 am which include ID card distribution & some goodies there is the inauguration by Hon chief Minister of Maharashtra state Mr.Prithvirajchavan.

After the inauguration our session started which are as follows

·       Keynote 1
“Intelligent Silicon in the Data-centric Era”
By
AbhiTalwalkar , CEO of LSI

a.     Information & data are the most important currency.
b.     As the world becomes increasingly mobile & social, we are now seeking a data deluge.
c.      Companies are looking for new solutions to manage the cost, power, performance.
d.    So, there needs to be more intelligent hardware which knows how to protect data and where to move it.

·       Keynote 2

“Opportunities and Challenges for high performance Microprocessor Design and Design Automation”
By
RuchirPuri, Fellow IBM

a.     High end microprocessor designs and design automation methodologies are at inflection point.
b.    Power and current demands reaching breaking point and we are also reaching diminishing returns from simply adding more cores.
c.     Innovate the design stack and move the focus from physical design implementation to new IP and methodologies at logic, architecture and at the boundary of hardware and software.

·       S1.1:
“Product definition”
By
YatinAcharya, Marvel

a.     Converting customer requirement (quantitative data) into technical requirement.
b.    Selection, definition and design of competitive product(which will have competitive advantages).
c.      Involvement of all function within the enterprise (manufacturing, marketing, human resource, finance and R&D).
d.     Redesign and Re-engineering.

·       S2.1
“Product/SOC architecture and challenges”
By
Mahesh Mehendale, fellow TI

a.     The semiconductor industry has been fueled by Moore’s law where the number of transistors in a microprocessor has been doubling every 18 to 24 months.
b.    Need for heterogeneous integration in the system is becoming important due to the need for mobility-enabled devices.
c.     This is creating new challenges for SOC implementation
DAY 2 (8th January 2013)

·       S3.1
“System design challenges”
By

a.     Optimizing the microprocessor, ASIPs and single purpose processors in the system.
b.     Taking into the design metrics like power dissipation, physical design etc.
c.     Optimizing the power dissipation, to do so reduce the clock rate operating voltages etc.
d.     Flexibility and  upgradeability.

·       S4.1
“System SW and Application SW”
By
HimanshuBhat NVIDIA

a.     Systems software is the set of programs that coordinates the activities and functions of the hardware and other programs throughout the computer system. Operating systems, utility programs, and middleware, which are all examples of systems software

Application software consists of programs that help users solve particular computing p
